Helicopter Tour!

The next activity that we did was go on an amazing helicopter tour with Air Maui. We got to see the whole island! Which isn't actually that big. Its only 727 sq miles total! It was so interesting to see the different parts of the island. When you think of Hawaii, you think of a tropical island with palm trees everywhere and thats it, but Maui is so different than that. There are many different parts to the island.

This isn't a very good picture, because I don't have a scanner so I took a picture with my webcam.... Colton on the left, Grandma, Mark, Ryan, Me, and Michelle!

She is gonna kill me for posting this, but this was my aunt Michelle and I in the Helicopter! She was very anxious about flying because she doesn't like heights but she did great!

This was our captain of the helicopter! He gave us information about the island the whole time we were up in the air! He was so informative and had a great voice! Wouldn't have chose a better captain!

The glare was pretty intense for taking pictures but we managed to get a few...

Here is the coast!

These were the fields that were completely irrigated with irrigation that people made hundreds of years ago. The thing that I found most interesting is that there isn't much wildlife on this island. There are chickens that were brought over to cock fight, and there are wild hogs that were also brought over. And the only "deer" over there is elk that some man farms! So you can go exploring and the only thing to watch out for is the wild hogs!

There were many reservoirs around the island...

And mountainous regions....there was also an old volcano that obviously doesn't erupt anymore but apparently it is a great place to watch the sunrise, but people who aren't from the island always go up there to watch the sunrise wearing the clothes they wear to the beach and then they get up their and realize that its really cold. So just like any mountain, if you decide to visit and watch the sunrise, bring a coat because it is most likely below freezing on it!

There is also a rainforest area that rains quite a bit, and isn't like the rainforest that you normally think of....it has many different kinds of trees though!

And amazing waterfalls!

  1. Maui and it's neighboring islands are best seen from the air as the vast majority of each island is inaccessible from the ground. One of the best values on Maui is the active volcano air tour of Maui and the Big Island of Hawaii..
